Item Alpha Epsilon Pi, Fraternity House at The University of Tampa(1979)This two-story, wood-frame house was located at 715 North A Street on the campus of The University of Tampa. It was used as student housing from 1976 to 1984.Item Delo Hall, Dormitory at the University of Tampa(1979)This 11-story building was located on Crescent Place at North B Street, now called Frederic H. Spaulding Drive. This image is of the eastern façade, the camera is aimed southwest. It was originally know as the Myelvaron. It served as a hotel and apartment building before being purchased by The University of Tampa in 1966. It was converted into a dormitory and named after The University of Tampa's fifth president, David M. Delo, and his wife, Elsie "Sunny" Delo. The structure was razed in 2000 to make way for the Vaughn Center.Item Demolition Near the Science Wing of Plant Hall at the University of Tampa(1976-01)In the foreground, the image shows the demolition of the GCR (Government Classroom) Building. Four men push against the west wall of the building. In the background, a metal fire escape reaching to the third floor of the exterior of the west wall of the Science Wing is visible. A brick and mortar extension that was appended to the Science Wing's west face is also visible. Built around 1947, it was alternatively named the Canteen, Government Classroom Building, War Administration Building and ROTC Building. Acken. Mr. Acken, an architect and artist, came to Tampa in 1915. Though confined to a wheelchair, he visited Plant Park at the University of Tampa to paint and play checkers in this shady bower. The bench was removed during a construction project in 1999. The inscription reads: 1871 Joe B Acken 1930 Hate hypocrisy, love all beauty and face each day smiling.Item Joe B. Acken Memorial Bench in Plant Park (View 2)(1995) Bagley, ArtLocated in a shady spot near the Spanish-American War Memorial, this bench was dedicated to Joe B. Acken, an artist and architect from New York City. In later life, he was confined to a wheelchair and came to Plant Park to paint and play checkers. The bench was removed in 1999 during a construction project. The inscription reads: 1871 Joe B. Valenti, A.I.A.Item Rivershore Tower, Dormitory at The University of Tampa(1977-08-10) Edelson, IrvLooking south across Kennedy Boulevard, a Denny's Restaurant, parking lot and seven-story building are visible. This property was purchased by The University of Tampa in August of 1977. The former hotel was converted into a 192 room dormitory.
