Respondez! Vol. 23

Abstract

Respondez! (1992-2015) became Respond, starting with the 2016 issue. Respondez! is a poem written by Walt Whitman in 1871 as a call to action. The Respond staff interprets Whitman’s poem as a call for new, emerging ideas to be brought fourth and challenged. The journal embodies Walt Whitman’s poem by aiming to publish informative research that challenges mainstream assumptions.
Letter From the Editor in Chief:
I enjoyed my tenure as Editor in Chief this year, and feel that I've had a very positive and successful experience. As EIC, I have: created new infrastructure - Facebook page, Wordpress blog, and website - for the publication; obtained 26 quality submissions; and have met all deadlines and time constraints, despite the inconvenient resignations of cover artists, layout staff, and other board members.
I sincerely appreciate the contributions of friends, family, and other members of the University of Tampa community, as well as all board members and faculty advisors. Their assistance and advice enabled me to complete this book for the honors program. Below, I have mentioned a few individuals who went out of their way to make significant contributions to Respondez.
First, I would like to thank Dr. Luter and Carla Sykes for assisting me throughout the semester with Respondez tasks, and for meeting with me periodically to answer questions or to give advice. These meetings provided me with information that enabled me to act appropriately as an informed manager of the publication.
Additionally, I would like to note how my Assistant Editor in Chief, Selene SanFelice, made great contributions during February and March of this year. Over these two months, Selene evaluated, edited, and revised all of the submissions, and took the initiative to point out critical errors on some of the submissions that I missed; and accordingly, played a significant role in maintaining the standards and reputation of Respondez.
Lastly, I would like to thank our artists - Cover Artist, Keir Magoulas, and Interior Artist, Kristine Zambito - made high quality contributions to the publication. The artwork in this year's publication is vastly improved because of their contributions.
I hope that everyone enjoys the articles and artistic features of the 2014 edition of Respondez. Thank you for reading.
Max Davidoff 2014 Respondez! Editor in Chief
