Abstract
Respondez! (1992-2015) became Respond, starting with the 2016 issue. Respondez! is a poem written by Walt Whitman in 1871 as a call to action. The Respond staff interprets Whitman’s poem as a call for new, emerging ideas to be brought fourth and challenged. The journal embodies Walt Whitman’s poem by aiming to publish informative research that challenges mainstream assumptions.
FROM THE EDITOR·IN·CHIEF
Despite vast and rapid changes in this year's board, the members of the 2009 edition of Respondez! have proven to be efficient, brilliant, and worthy members of an editorial group. I have been honored to serve as this year's Editor-In-Chief for Respondez!.I would like to send my deepest thanks out to Dr. Gary Luter and the Honors office for making this edition possible. Even though it is only Dr. Luter's first year as advisor to Respondez!, he has helped change Respondez! in positive ways.
As a third year member of Respondez!'s editorial board, I can say with absolute certainty that this year's competition for publication was the most fierce yet. Although almost all of the submissions that we received could have easily found their way onto the pages of this year's edition, the board strove to provide readers with the most diverse variety of well-written and interesting papers that the University of Tampa has to offer.
I want to thank all of the writers who submitted their papers to this year's Respondez! Honestly, the submissions are what makes the countless hours of effort worth it. Even though a paper did not make it one year, it does not mean that it will not make it the next. All of the writers who submitted this year provided the editorial board with incredible papers. Without such submissions, Respondez! would cease to exist. Thank you. I also encourage everyone to submit to future editions of Respondez!,
I hope that you will enjoy reading Respondez! and that the ideas presented within its pages inspire you to do something.

RESPONDEZ! is the University of Tampa's journal for nonfiction
writing and is published annually by the University of Tampa Honors Program. Students from all disciplines are encourages to submit research papers, personal essays, and other nonfiction writings. We welcome written responses to the articles although the authors are solely responsible for their opinions. We are also receptive to any suggestions you may have concerning publication.
