Respondez! Vol. 17

Abstract

Respondez! (1992-2015) became Respond, starting with the 2016 issue. Respondez! is a poem written by Walt Whitman in 1871 as a call to action. The Respond staff interprets Whitman’s poem as a call for new, emerging ideas to be brought fourth and challenged. The journal embodies Walt Whitman’s poem by aiming to publish informative research that challenges mainstream assumptions.
When one enters a position of leadership, one never knows what challenges and triumphs lie ahead. For those who rose to the challenge of making Respondez! 2008 a reality, the effort and dedication shown were truly exemplary, and the results have been excellent. I am proud to report that this year's Respondez! is a vibrant showcase of the outstanding intellectual endeavors inspired by the University of Tampa Honors Program.
It has often been remarked in past editions that competition was fierce; this year I was astounded to collect no less than 30 excellent submissions from a diverse range of fields and perspectives. It is a true privilege to view so many entries of such creativity and insight. Needless to say, the final decisions were not easy, but I am pleased with the results. I hope that all of our authors, including those whose works have not yet appeared in print, will continue their great contributions to the Honors Program and Respondez!
I would like to extend my profound thanks to Dr. Piper for his advice, assistance and encouragement. It is no exaggeration to say that without him, Respondez! would not be possible inthe form you see today. I would also like to thank Dr. Luter for his steadfast support.
Please enjoy Respondez! 2008.
Best regards, Simos D. Farrell Editor-In-Chief
