Abstract
This reading is a part of the MFA Lectores Public Reading Series with an introduction by Dr. Don Morrill. John Capouya reads from his book Florida Soul: From Ray Charles to KC and the Sunshine Band. Ben Montgomery reads from his book The Man Who Walked Backward: An American Dreamer's Search for Meaning in the Great Depression.
John Capouya is an author and professor of journalism and non-fiction writing at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida. During his career in journalism he worked at Newsweek, The New York Times, SmartMoney, and New York Newsday. He wrote the books Florida Blues, Gorgeous George, and Real Men Do Yoga. He has also written for various publications, including Sports Illustrated, Life, Tampa Bay Times, and Travel & Leisure. Ben Montgomery is the author of the New York Times bestseller Grandma Gatewood's Walk, which won the 2014 National Outdoor Book Award for History/Biography. An award-winning staff writer at the Tampa Bay Times, Montgomery was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2010.
