For their participation in the judging process, we would like to thank the following Saunders Writing Center staff members: Chris Rickard, Kristen Roche, Angela Sia, Mike Haines, Angela Solomon, Victor O'Brien, and Bob Valentine.
Our publication would not be possible without the support of the First Year Writing faculty, especially Profs. Van Spanckeren, Solomon, and Putnam, whose students won this year's awards. We also wish to thank all of the First Year Writing students who shared their hard work with us.
Finally, we would like to thank our advisor, Dr. Putnam, for his guidance and support.

Description
The Wordsmith Awards highlight the most notable writing
by students in the First Year W citing Program. These writings
are published annually by the University of Tampa's Saunders
Writing Center. The staff of the Saunders Writing Center
collects works during the fall and spring semesters from First
Year Writing students. The published entries are directly
chosen by the tutors during a blind review. Using a rubric,
essays are judged on mechanics, style, and content. After
gathering the top selections, the submissions are reviewed
once again with a strong attention to detail and content.
Finally, the authors of these outstanding works are published
and recognized at the University of Tampa's Academic
Awards Ceremony.
