Abstract
Acknowledgements
The staff of the Saunders Writing Center solicits work for the Wordsmith Awards from students in all Freshman Composition courses and selects the best essays for publication. For their participation in the judging process, we would like to thank staff members Cathy Kaufmann, Maria Kinch, Michelle Pelaez, and Jill Rudolph. Our adviser, Dr. Llsa Birnbaum, deserves special recognition for all her editing and guidance. Special thanks also go to Dr. Brian Garman, whose computer expertise was invaluable. Our publication wouldn't be possible without the support of the Freshman Composition faculty and all the students who shared their work with us.
