Respondez! (1992-2015) became Respond, starting with the 2016 issue. Respondez! is a poem written by Walt Whitman in 1871 as a call to action. The Respond staff interprets Whitman’s poem as a call for new, emerging ideas to be brought fourth and challenged. The journal embodies Walt Whitman’s poem by aiming to publish informative research that challenges mainstream assumptions.
Letter from the
Editors-in-Chief
This year, the Honor's publication Respondez! took
on a magical transformation. With the recommendations
of Dr. Christopher Boulton and the guidance
of Dr. Gary Luter, Respondez! was renamed
Respond. The aim of this rebranding was to professionalize
the process of editing and accepting papers;
this was no easy endeavor! We implemented
new tactics, albeit not all of them worked. However,
the dedication of our team members made this
transformation possible.
We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Gary
Luter, who entertained and supported our radical
ideas to change Respond to a new and dynamic
process.
We would also like to thank Melanie Posner for
being the mastermind artist behind our beautiful
cover.
Finally, we would like to thank those who submitted work and those
who have supported Respond throughout the years. Continue to research
and write because you keep us going!
I would like to give a special thanks to Valeria, Elizabeth and Kendal for dealing
with my extremely long emails and making this magazine possible. Being abroad
during the production portion of the process showed just how important it is to have
dedicated team members like them. -N
Our goal for Respond was to serve as a platform for students to showcase their
work and share these ideas with others. We took on big challenges this year but
with the help of our dedicated staff, we did it. I wholeheartedly believe this transformation
will continue to grow and prosper. Thank you to Nikki and our awesome
editors for doing all you do. Happy reading! -V
